You can define an inventory level that becomes the threshold to determine when an item needs to be reordered. The out of stock threshold is set to a number above zero. Therefore, we will discuss the out of stock threshold in Magento and how to manage it.
Out of Stock Threshold in Magento
To set the out of stock threshold perform the following:
- In the Product Information panel, select Inventory.
- Set the Qty for Item’s Status to Become Out of Stock to a value above zero.
Perform the following steps to change the quantity allowed in cart:
This option is helpful for products in high demand. If you want to capture a larger number of new customers rather than selling high volumes to high-quantity buyers, you can set a maximum quantity to prevent a high-quantity buyer from taking out your entire inventory.
- In the Product Information panel, select Inventory.
- Change the Minimum and Maximum Quantity Allowed in Shopping Cart fields to appropriate values for your product, store, and strategy.
To be notified when stock drops below threshold perform the following:
- In the Product Information panel, select Inventory.
- Clear the Use Config Settings checkbox, and set Notify for Quantity Below to indicate the level when you want to be notified. By default, the value is set to 1.
